The places of interest

Roman Mons Porphyrites
The term porphyry east of Latin means purple. Purple is the color of royalty, and the Imperial Porphyry violet is a rock with large crystals of plagioclase. This rock has been appreciated for various monuments and building projects in Rome and later. It came from quarries in the eastern desert of Egypt, the.600 million years of the Arab-Nubian Shield. Tourists can still see the mountain of porphyry near Gebel Abu Dukhan.

Careless Reef
An excellent place for diving, Careless Reef is north of the island of Giftun. With virtually no protection against the high seas, the reef is home to a large community of Moray eels.

Omo Gamaar
The island, located at the south end of a very long reef extends over a distance of 2 km east of approximately 400 m in length. Teeming with pelagic fish, the square in front of the lighthouse is perfect for diving. Many cracks and overhangs mark the top of the reef, all decorated with soft coral. A distinctive feature of the island is a coral reef on the wall, exactly in the form of one-horned rhinoceros.

Abu Rimata Ota and Abu Rimata
The reef is nicknamed Aquarium thanks to its huge schools of fish. Even reef fish usually found in couples tend to cluster in large groups. The huge schools banner fish are particularly impressive, although many other fish in may be found here. The eastern part of the reef has a very different character. The soft corals and rocky outcrops predominate.
